Tiny is a service that allows users to shorten a long link, share it, and then track the resulting usage, while keeping the UCSF name as part of the link. While other link-shortening services exist, only tiny.ucsf.edu keeps the UCSF name as part of the link.
For example, you can use tiny.ucsf.edu to turn this long link:
https://news.ucsf.edu/releases/ucsf-childrens-hospital-receives-100-million-gift-to-build-new-hospital/
Into this:
https://tiny.ucsf.edu/dAEybA
This makes it easier to include the link in an email or Twitter post without it breaking or taking up too much space.
YES! You can view a simple report on each unique link you create by appending a "*" to the end of the link.

Your link will not automatically expire, however, after you have created your new link you will be given an opportunity to set an expiration date for your link. Once the link is expired, any page requests for that link will be sent to a page explaining that the URL is no longer active.
Anyone can use tiny.ucsf.edu, but the service only works for links "in" UCSF -- that is, web pages on UCSF sites.
You can create tiny.ucsf.edu links to any web page within UCSF, that is "anything".ucsf.edu, this more technically referred to as any subdomain of ucsf.edu.

Each link is completely unique, even if a URL has already been submitted you will get a new tiny.ucsf.edu link that is unique to you!
YES you can when you submit your URL on the main page by filling in the alias field. You may use letters and numbers but can not use special characters like (!@#$%^&.....) etc.
Similarly to services like bit.ly or tinyurl we use a 301 redirect, this is most friendly to a site's SEO (search engine optimization).
Because tiny is only a redirect service, we do not support SSL on tiny itself, however links that are SSL based will work.
Short version, if your URL is https, we won't break that.
