UCSF Among World’s Best in US News Global Universities Rankings for 2016

New rankings again place UC San Francisco among the top schools in the world. UCSF ranked in the top five in seven different subject areas, according to the 2016 Best Global Universities rankings released this week by U.S News & World Report.

29th - Psychiatry & Psychology

UCSF ranked second globally for immunology and pharmacology and toxicology. In the fields of neuroscience and behavior, clinical medicine, and molecular biology and genetics, UCSF placed third, and was ranked fifth for biology and biochemistry and microbiology. UCSF’s programs in psychiatry as well as social sciences and public health also ranked among the top 30 in the world.         

The rankings, which focus on schools’ academic research and reputation rather than evaluating undergraduate and graduate programs, aim to help an increasing number of international students accurately compare institutions around the world.

Scores were calculated based on 12 indicators that included the university’s global and regional research reputation, publication record, extent of international collaborations, and impact of their citations. UCSF ranked among the top 20 schools in the world on criteria such as total citations and percentage of highly cited publications.

Overall, UCSF was ranked as the 23rd best university among the 750 institutions across 57 countries, joining six other University of California campuses in the top 50.
